Pimp My Balcony

I finally made it back from India on Friday. Lufthansa's booking system was a tiny bit overstretched with the situation and indicated my booking often as cancelled (though not always), however, everything went just fine.

Thus I could enjoy an almost summer like weekend, however, our balcony was far from ready for summer.

I like to store certain things on the balcony of our residence. We haven't got a cubby, so there is no alternative place for gardening tools, bike maintenance tools and garbage to for recycling.

The problem is, that there are hardly any durable outdoor storage furniture available. As a (too long term) intermediate solution I once bought these really cheap plastic chest of drawers, which really have fallen into ruin.

After a long quest and over-stretching Toño's patience, I finally came across Container DS, which were designed by Kuno Nüssli for MAGAZIN®.

This sideboard system is inspired by oversea freight containers and thus is made of durable metal. It is not an outdoor furniture but it should be fit for the task.

We spent all Saturday cleaning the balcony, getting rid of waste, re-potting plants and potting new herbs. Now summer may come :)

I can't help it...

...but I consider ships like this one oddly fascinating.

... but I never quite trust double themed restaurants.

How was your commute today?

Well, our tug was one and a half hours late...

... and it was a bit like riding through a gin & tonic.

There was a firing planed but it had too much ice in the firing range and we came ashore a day earlier. Today, all flights are fully booked, thus we will spend the night at Frederikshavn and I will return to Toño tomorrow afternoon (as originally scheduled).

Sunset at Playa de la Victoria

(alternative title: perving at the beach)

I'm on a business trip again. Like last week I'm at Cádiz in south-western Spain.

Today, I went for an evening stroll along the Playa de la Victoria, which turned out to be quite a popular place among the young and handsome for a twilight jog :p

I *heart* Tugs

I can't help it, but tugboats are just amazing. If I had known better as a boy, I would had wished to become a tugboat skipper. This is definitely a dream job up there on the bridge with the huge clear view screens, and sufficient thrust in the hull to push around big boys* at will. Must be an orgasmic feeling.

* sorry, big ladies of course (urgh!)

Doomsday on November 29, 2009?

On November 29, 2009 the Swiss citizen will decide whether I will loose my job, be cast out and shoved into the lumpenproletariat. Yesterday, our government put the initiative for an export ban on Swiss arms onto the ballot of the November 29 polling. Dear fellow citizens, since you don't maintain a decent Swiss navy, my fate is now entirely in your hands.
