The Fabulous Tasters

As announced, Toño. & I were on telly last night (see show), however, there was not much to see apart from our spotless tasting technique.

So after my elbow, another body part got some seconds of fame.

Ich hatte sogar schon gestern Abend versucht, mir das anzuschauen, aber da gab es nur die Sendung von letzter Woche. So jetzt habe ich euch beide also mal belebt gesehen, auch ganz unterhaltsam.

Cheers! ;-) Have you seen the movie "Sideways?" You should rent it, if you haven't. ;-)

With that said, I'm going to change subjects for a moment.

I don't have a wine fridge in my home, so proper storage / temperature control for bottles of wine is difficult. I bought a few ~$10 bottles for a party, stuck them in my fridge to chill, and over the course of the evening forgot about them. They sat at ~36C overnight. I've since removed them from the fridge and placed in a cool, dark corner of my pantry.

What sort of harm have I done to the wines? Please don't hate me for disrespecting wine. ;-)

@Martin... und jetzt weisst Du auch wer Rechts- und wer Linkshänder ist (nicht, dass das von irgendwelchem Belang wäre).

@Torchy... Until that will happen, I can only dream of what I might see ;p

@Gauss Jordan... Fridge is no problem, Freezer would be worse, but the bottle would probably not have survived the night (I had beer can burst on the balcony in Moscow). Unlike distilled beverages, wine should be stored at a constant temperature (wine is best kept in a chilly cellar, booze in the attic). My vodka is kept in the freezer, it tastes best at -18C.

Actually the fridge can be a good thing, especially when you're a responsible drinker and don't want to drink an entire bottle in one go. Put the cork back on after opening the bottle. This way, you can keep it in the fridge for a few days without oxidation effects.

If you store the bottles, especially at room temperature, you should keep the bottles horizontally to keep the cork from desiccating.

A good way to fast chill some wine is to put the bottles in a bucket full of ice and then add sufficient salt.

Btw, of course we had complimentary tickets for the Swiss premier of Sideways.

@Mr Urs: Of course. ;-) I went to the Sideways Feast at my favorite local theater as a birthday gift from a couple of good friends last month.

The menu included a four course dinner, paired with wines from Fiddlehead Winery, one of the ones featured in the film.
