Going All Buff!

Toño still has plantar fasciitis and is not allowed to run more than 15 minutes a week on a soft surface (a thing we call here Finnenbahn). To compensate for this, a few weeks ago he signed up to a gym, which I'd recommended him (although I haven't been to a gym in 29 years).

To cut a long story short, Toño persuaded me to give it a try, which I did this morning. I somehow managed to get through this without having a screaming fit. Thus I signed up for a year.

While the fee is rather catholic baroque, the place is totally puritan protestant with strict attire guidelines (no wifebeaters, shorts at least to the knee). There is no background music, no bar where a sun-bed tanned fake-blond serves protein shakes, no fat-burn group workout, no free-weights, and no cardio workout equipment. There are only machines that build up brute force. My new mantra goes: Strength is not everything but without it we are nothing.

Oh, I thought you meant the colour.

how are you going to warm up and warm down if there's no cardio stuff?

and with that dress code there's not gonna be much opportunity for 'appreciating the scenery'

don't think I could cope with a gym like that - all my shorts are much shorter :P

These days fake tans are sprayed on. This gym seems very spartan, and you're aware of how the Spartans did things?

@Ms.Mac... my face will be more greenish when the bill arrives.

@Torchy... Everything is left to the locker room and the showers. You can't hide anything there. Especially since the circularly arranged showers are fully open to the locker room ;P. And I have to go longer shorts shopping :(

@Mickel... I think I have an idea...

Woo, you go Mr. Urs, pump that iron, hope you don´t feel sore the morning after, working out is always a way to get the old testosterone sky-high, hope you two take a good advantage of that, Keep the great work.

I don't like the Spartans.

@Dzyan... even more Testosterone should flow through my body?

@Martin... I think it was Herodotus who described the Spartans as uncooperative, corrupt, and naïve. I think I can be all three at once.

All of the above are reasons why I have my own weight room at home. :-)
